15th World Toilet Summit and Expo from Oct 27-29

KUCHING: The 15th World Toilet Summit and Expo 2016 will be held here from Oct 27-29.

Organised for the first time in Malaysia, the three-day summit will be held at Imperial Hotel Kuching.

Kuching South City Council (MBKS) mayor Datuk James Chan said MBKS was honoured to be given the opportunity to organise this prestigious summit.

Last year’s summit was hosted by India.

“We are targeting on attracting about 600 delegates to the summit, and we are working hard at achieving this target as this summit will feature all the experts and those involved in the toilet and sanitation industries,” said Chan at a press conference here yesterday.

Describing the summit as a great global platform to discuss toilet and sanitation issues, Chan said the upcoming summit would be a meeting to discuss and exchange views and expertise on global and local challenges and issues.

The theme for this year’s summit is ‘Happy Toilet Healthy City’.

Chan said among the renowned speakers coming to speak at the summit are World Toilet Organisation (WTO) founder Jack Sim and representatives from World Health Organisation.

Aimed at creating greater awareness on the importance of sanitation, topics that will be presented at the summit include proper waste management, good toilet ethics, and latest sanitary technology.

Organised in conjunction with World Toilet Day, which is normally celebrated on Nov 19, the summit will also include an expo that is expected to be participated by more than 50 exhibitors.

The expo, which will showcase various products and services relating to toilet, sanitation, health and hygiene, is open to the public.

The summit is supported by the state government and Sarawak Convention Bureau, and Chan is calling on those involved in toilet and sanitation, including local authorities nationwide, to register for the summit.

“This is a rare opportunity for us to meet, learn and exchange knowledge and views with the experts involved in the toilet and sanitation industry.”
