KUCHING: Challenging taboos and making sanitation sexy are among numerous topics set be discussed during the 15th World Toilet Summit and Exposition, scheduled to be held in Sarawak next month.
It will be the first time the summit will be held in Malaysia.
Supported by the State Government and Sarawak Convention Bureau, the three-day long event, themed “Happy Toilet, Health City”, will take place at the Imperial Hotel here beginning Oct 27.
Kuching South City Council mayor Datuk James Chan Kay Syn said the event will be held in conjunction with this year’s World Toilet Day.
James said the summit will serve as a global platform for expertise and knowledge-sharing for researchers, scholars, sanitation experts, corporate players and non-governmental organisations.
“The summit will feature renowned speakers in the sanitation industry from Malaysia and other countries including Singapore, China, Taiwan, Bhutan, the Philippines, India, Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, Japan, Sweden, Geneva, Australia and the United States.
“They will appear at the summit to present their findings and solutions with regard to issues arising from the sanitation industry,” said James in a statement today.
Among the topics to be discussed are the global sanitation crisis; government and policies; education and health; challenging taboos and making sanitation sexy.
James said several international and local sanitation companies are expected to join and showcase their products during the summit.
“This is a great opportunity for the public and for those who are involved in the sanitation and health-related sectors to learn and exchange knowledge with experts in the industry,” he said.
